The Department of Health & Social Services empowers individuals, families and the community to improve the quality of life by providing an array of counseling, treatment and support services that enhance the independence of each individual.

Appointments

Services are available by appointment. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day.


Fees

Fees are calculated on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. No one will be refused service because of inability to pay. All major insurance policies are accepted.


Funding

Financial support for programs comes from the City and Borough of Juneau, the State of Alaska, taxes on tobacco and alcohol, and fees paid by clients.


Confidentiality

The Department of Health & Social Services follows federal and state regulations regarding confidentiality of client information. No clients will be subject to discrimination based on sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.


Programs:

The CBJ - Health & Social Services provides services under the following programs:

• Juneau Mental Health Center (JMHC)
• Juneau Recovery Hospital (JRH)
• Alaska Youth Initiative (AYI)
• Access to Children's Comprehensive Environmental Support Services (ACCESS)
• Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT)
• Community Support Program (CSP)


Into The Next Millennium:

The CBJ - Health & Social Services plans to continue to provide comprehensive and community based mental health and chemical dependency care. Our hope is to extend outreach services to locations where we would reach more of the aged population, as well as increase our capacity to serve teens. We will expand psychological and psychosocial evaluation services, and engage in thorough program evaluation efforts tracking outcomes. The center will continue to utilize Quality Management methods to improve on the service delivery process.


Future Projects:

The CBJ - Health & Social Services is involved in continuous improvement through total quality management. These processes have produced two significant projects to improve the quality of life in our community. They are:


• Providing the leadership for development of a community Continuum of Care document. A by-product of this process was the development of a Social Service Provider Resource page which identifies agencies and the services they provide for easy reference.
• Establishing through collaboration with other agencies, the construction of the community's only facility for the Mentally Ill and Chemically Addicted (MICA).
