Consolation (or distraction) arrives in the form of an upcoming wedding between the Deputy Sheriff and his fiancé. But the happy couple is planning nothing more than a courthouse wedding, so Miss Julia steps in to put together a “proper” wedding for them.

“Pen Pals,” by Olivia Goldsmith With her fiance being a lawyer with all the right connections, Jennifer figures it is no big deal to take the fall when her boss is fingered for insider trading. But Tom doesn’t come through for her and she begins a new life in prison, where her crew leader makes her a very interesting offer…

“A Comfortable Wife,” by Stephanie Laurens Antonia’s life plans include a husband, and if it can’t be a marriage of love, at least she intends to have a marriage between friends in this Regency period romance. Her expectations of a comfortable arranged marriage with her childhood friend, Lord Philip, are thrown into turmoil when she realizes that she has fallen in love with him, and he with her.

“Widow’s Walk,” by Robert B. Parker Spenser becomes the angel of death when he is hired to track down a banker’s killer. Was it the victim’s new young wife? Or one of the men he picked up in a bar? Each informant Spenser talks to ends up dead, and he finds his options closing in rapidly.

“Mortal Prey,” by John Sandford Clara Rinker, a soft-spoken southerner and one of the best hit women in the business, has disappeared after a sniper kills her boyfriend with a bullet meant for her. Lucas Davenport, a cop and near-victim of Rinker’s, is enlisted by the FBI to help find her. But even as he is searching for Rinker, she is closing in on the killer.

“Southampton Road,” by Anne Perry When clairvoyant Maude Lamont dies during a séance she is conducting, Inspector Pitt steps in to investigate. His investigation seems to point towards dirty politics, and the big election coming up sets Pitt a deadline he is hard-pressed to meet.

“7B” by Stella Cameron Sibyl has been single far too long for a proper lady of the 1800’s, and now she’s adding to the gossip about her by deciding that, single or not, she wants a baby. When she approaches her neighbor, Hunter, a successful defense lawyer, about fathering a child, he is stunned but wary, especially since his latest trial win involved a big shot who is threatening both of their lives.
